The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Life's a witch then you die...or not. Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a fun quirky, but dark coming of age horror series that really surprised me.

It follows chapters or adventures of Sabrina who is a half breed, A part normal teenage girl and a part witch. As she has to deal with evils that threaten her, her family, and friends.

This is a spinoff of sorts to Riverdale, but this one really dives more into the supernatural side of things. It almost feels like Harry Potter meets Stranger Things. I never knew I needed that combination, but after getting it I want a whole lot more.

The series is funny. There's so many uniquely strange characters that every scene has some quirkiness to it. There's also a cat that Sabrina has some witty exchanges with, and an aunt that everybody would want.

Story wise there's adventures that happen in both the normal world and her witchcraft world. You get a lot of the beautiful scenery, cool scenes, and the beef of the plot, but most of the heart is found in the normal world. Instead of conflicting they really balanced each other out.

But the best part of the show is definitely Kiernan Shipka's performance. The Mad Men actress has really grown into her own, and it feels as if this role was tailor made for her. She was amazing.

A quirky and funny series with some dark and effective horror elements to it that still managed to explore some real topics while offering some food for thought. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a whole lot more than your average teen series.
