Apple TV+ was pretty meh, at least for me at launch. The only thing I was really interested in was the M. Night Shyamalan produced Servant and Defending Jacob, and I must say they were worth the price of admission.

Defending Jacob was an intriguing and very emotional look into a family dealing with a very bad situation. It follows Andy Barber(Chris Evans), an assistant district attorney who is torn between his sworn duty to uphold the law and love when his son is accused of murder.

This miniseries was gripping. From the start you know you're in for a show. It's on the slower side, but I think it really allows you to sink your teeth into the story and especially the characters. They're the bread and butter of the series and they're great with acting to match.

Chris Evans proves once again that he is more than just a pretty face with another stunning performance. He plays the father of the kid accused, and the amount of vulnerability his character has is at times heartbreaking. Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell, who play the mom and kid respectively were also amazing, and the whole cast just did a fantastic job.

I loved the plot and I was very intrigued with finding out if the kid did it or not, but where the series really shines is when it shifts from a whodunit more to a look on the effects of this situation on this family. I loved watching how the family's life shifts because of it, and there's an ending that perfectly manifests that and I loved it.

Overall Defending Jacob was a gripping and emotional series that I really enjoyed.
