The rise of Uber is well known in Silicon Valley and in the tech world but for most this story is brand knew. Travis Kalanick was not the creator of Uber but he was the CEO and the guy that took them from a good idea to a global phenomenon that changed everything in the world of transportation and the taxi limousine industry.
Showtime's series on Uber and Kalanick is written by Brian Koppleman, the creator of Billions and the movie Rounders amongst other things. There is a real Aaron Sorkin and The Social Network vibe going on here. The coolness of the Internet, technology sector and how these amazing new ideas took traditional businesses and flipped them into nothing is always exciting and fun to watch. This show has that feel and more. Incredible dialogue and banter amongst the key players that helped build Uber and those that were trying to stop it. Uma Thurman plays Arriana Huffington from the Huffington Post, Kyle Chandler plays Bill Gurley the legendary Valley investor and the rest of the cast fills in their parts so well.
If you are a fan of technology, Uber and stories of the rise of new industries this is for you. If you enjoy Brian Koppelman and the Sorkin-esque banter this show is for you. All in all this is a great watch.
