Uncut Gems was amazing, and one of the best movies of the year. It was thrilling and one of the most uncomfortable and tense experiences I've had in awhile, but somehow it still managed to be entertaining and at times hilarious.
The film follows a fast talking New York City jeweler addicted to gambling and dealing with a deadly amount of debt, who then smartly decides to put everything he has left on one last bet.
This film was enthralling. It chews up every second of its runtime to hit you where it hurts. There's witty dialogue and there is a lot of yelling, but it just added to the uncertainty of the film.
We have to talk about Adam Sandler, who gives the best performance of his career. This role was made for him, and he absolutely kills it. He plays a character that would normally be unlikable, but he's so funny and entertaining in the role that you end up rooting for him anyway.
And the plot. This man puts himself in the worst possible situation imaginable. Everything bad that you can think of happens, and things you can't think of happen to. The man just keeps digging a bigger grave, but it's so engaging.
Overall Uncut Gems is a hilarious yet dark look at greed and self destruction. Adam Sandler is perfect and the film is so well crafted that I'd call it a masterpiece.
