Sometimes the brutal honesty, clarity and unfiltered observance of life is exactly what we need. Sam, an 18 year old on the autism spectrum provides all that and more in this touching, funny and entertaining Netflix sitcom.

Atypical is a show that follows an 18 year old on the spectrum that is in his senior year of public high school and exploring the world of dating, college, and all the other typical events of a young adult from an "Atypical" point of view.

This show is funny in a lot of ways because Sam's point of view and honest comments are but true and also uncomfortable for the people around him. His interactions in therapy, attempts at dating, sleepovers with a friend and more are so entertaining.

The parents of this show are played by Michael Rappaport and Jennifer Jason Leigh. They have their own drama going on as well both as parents of a child with special needs and also between the two of them. This leads to more mature storylines but also humor too.

The character that in many ways steals this show and puts it over the top is the sister. Brigette Lundy-Paine who plays Casey is really a great actress. She's the caring sister that also keeps her brother in check and doesn't baby him at all. She's athletic and has a special bond with her dad and also the ball buster of the family that is usually taken out on her mom. Her antics, relationships and storylines in many cases are the most interesting of the show.

All in all I stumbled upon this show with no real knowledge about it.  After 2 episodes I was hooked. It's 3 seasons so far with season 4 coming in 2021. Can't wait!
