The Outsider

In all honesty, at first, I had no idea this was based on a Stephen King book.  I saw Jason Bateman and I saw a murder mystery with someone that may be falsely accused and I was in.  I began watching this show (a 10-episode series on HBO) and was intrigued.  There was a who done it kind of style to it and when some of the things seemed so obvious you knew there would be a twist coming.  Enter the Stephen King aspect and wow, things get a bit nutty. Amazing acting by Ben Mendelsohn (from Bloodline), Mare Winningham (St.Elmo’s Fire) Bill Camp (12 Years a Slave) and a standout performance by Cynthia Erivo as the private investigator.  I found myself at the edge of my couch and watching one after the other.  I banged this series out in a few days and definitely enjoyed it.  Usually I am not that into dark thrillers but this has a mix of mystery and darkness and blended well.  The acting is top notch and yet another great series by HBO.
