Who would have thought that a show filming men at sea catching crabs could be so entertaining. Well, 16 seasons later and so many additional spin off episodes and other fishing related shows; Deadliest Catch is the OG of all fishing shows. Discovery channel has hit a home run with this show.
Deadliest Catch with it's opening song; Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive gives viewers a true inside view of the life of a Crab fisherman. Camera's and cameramen are placed all around the boat giving us access to everything. The wheelhouse with the Captain and his inside point of view and insights about everything from where to fish, controlling his team, making decisions, dealing with crazy issues all the time and more. The quality editing of this show is really what makes it all work.
On the deck, you get to see the good and the bad of the life these guys are having out there. Huge waves, 1,000 lb pots swinging around, slippery moments, 10, 20 even 30 hour runs of hauling gear. It all leads to true emotions and grit. These guys are not actors and certainly are not playing things up for the cameras. These are true tough guys. The are slamming their hands, bodies, getting cuts and dealing with some of the scariest moments in the middle of the ocean hundreds of miles from shore.
Deadliest Catch is an incredible show and you really start to feel like you know all these guys. When they are pulling up a pot and praying it has some crab in so they can afford to run their boat, you are just as invested in it. I can't wait to see the next episode each week. It's a heck of a lot easier to watch this from my couch then be on that boat. These guys are true warriors working so hard to make a living and risking everything for it too.
