BBC's Peaky Blinders is magnificent. From a story standpoint it's as intense as they come, and from a technical standpoint it's among the best. With pin point accurate writing, phenomenal acting, and perfect production design down to the smallest of details.
It follows the Shelby family in Birmingham England after the Great War. Led by war hero Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) the series follows the Peaky Blinders as they dive into the criminal world.
This series felt like The Sopranos and Gangs of New York. It's intense and there is a lot of violence, but strangely it's also very peaceful which makes it so much more mesmerizing and terrifying.
The highlight of this series is without a doubt Thomas Shelby, who was played beautifully by Cillian Murphy. The character is so intelligent and calm, but so dangerous. It makes him terrifying yet riveting.
Add in a solid story with excellent writing, a litter of interestingly unique characters, and a dive into this criminal underworld and Peaky Blinders ended up a surprisingly original and dark look into the Shelby family, and one of the best series on TV.
