Shtisel provides a rare, unique glimpse into a truly unknown world of the ultra-orthodox Jewish community in Israel.

The show follows the Shtisel family and their lives on a daily basis. The struggles to maintain their religious beliefs and codes while also handling their human feelings around love, marriage, family and individualism. Each episode of this show brings you right into this world and you feel like a fly on the wall with amazing perspectives for a widowed father Shulum and his adult children, two sons and a daughter and their large families too.

Shtisel does a wonderful job of mixing really great humor in every episode with the deep family issues around adultery, finding a mate, having children, and also the personal goals each child has for themselves that may not show well within their community.

I found this show to be fascinating to understand the rules of matchmaking, the routines around eating or drinking, prayer and how this family simply just worked together or not in this intense ultra-orthodox community.

Shtisel is authentic and real, the show is all subtitles and no English. Each episode is a journey and a learning experience for something I never really understood before. Shtisel has done a remarkable job opening the worlds eyes to how this group lives and showing they are no different than anyone else when you look close enough.
