Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House is one of the best horror pieces I've seen in recent memory. It was a terrifying masterpiece.

I had extremely high expectations from this series, but it managed to do that and a whole lot more. The Haunting of Hill House was beautiful. The cinematography was gorgeous and the atmosphere was so thick and creepy. The scares were pin point accurate. If you are a fan of true horror then you will watch in awe. The scares were perfectly calculated, and there's no cheap ones. Each scream is earned, and I loved it.

The series takes place among two timelines, and follows a family and their time in The Hill House.

Plot wise the series did a fine job at adding to the Haunted House story. It feels like a painting covered in mud, slowly being wiped off. The suspense and mysteries set it above most. For every answer you get you end up asking two more questions, yet it still managed to wrap up nicely.

But the series's greatest achievement was the characters. They felt so vulnerable and familiar. Add that to the fact that the horror itself was so grounded and this series felt hauntingly real. You get to watch these characters as both kids and adults dealing with trauma in their own ways, and it's interesting seeing these characters just talk.

Mike Flanagan is a director I respect with Oculus being one of my favorite horror movies, this series feels so much like a more mature version of that.

Masterfully helmed and mesmerizingly acted The Haunting of Hill House is one of Netflix's best projects, and one of the best pieces of horror you can watch.
