The Umbrella Academy

Weird people, weird problems, weird family.

Netflix's Umbrella Academy has a lot going for it. From superheroes and ghost to time travel and an apocalypse to go along with the excellent soundtrack and beautiful visuals. This series was weird, strange, but refreshing.

I came into this series pretty blind. I didn't know much about the comic it's based on, all I knew was that it was another superhero series. I am glad to say that the series knocked me down then picked me up just to knock me back down again. Captivating, thrilling, mysterious, weird, and hilarious.

The series follows eight adopted siblings who come back together after the death of their father. That's all I can say without giving away spoilers.

The story is as complex as Game of Thrones, as interesting as Inception, but as stylish as Pulp Fiction. I can't really talk about the plot without spoiling it, but it's great. If you like sci-fi and action then you're going to love it. There's enough weirdness to fill anybody's dreams and nightmares.

Characters wise the series is just as strong. Three standout in particular to me, but all of them are so good. Also the family dynamic between them just made it that much better.

Overall Umbrella Academy proves it's  more than just your ordinary superhero series. It was made with such style and grace yet it's deep enough to completely get lost in. For any comic book buff this is a must see.
