Blood, Guts, Destiny, and Monsters. Netflix's The Witcher was excellent. It managed to fill the fantasy void left by Game of Thrones all while completely being its own thing.

It follows a professional monster hunter, a witcher by the name Geralt of Rivia as his destiny intertwines with a mage Yeenefer of Vengerberg and princess Ciri as they try to navigate a world of corruption and monsters, but oftentimes the people are more dangerous than the monsters.

As a fan of the games I was worried about this series. Video game adaptations don't have the best reputation. As of late it has gotten better with Detective Pikachu and Sonic, but nothing of that size had ever been attempted. However I am happy to say that the drought is over.

Holy crap this series blew me away. The Witcher met every one of my expectations, and even managed to surpass a few. It can't be overstated, but the production value is among the best you'll ever see in TV. You're teleported into a completely different world where everything is made so well. From the creatures to the clothes everything feels so unique.

The action was also breathtaking, and I think that's what really sets it apart from Game of Thrones. They were beautifully choreographed and absolutely brutal, but without a doubt Henry Cavill's turn as Geralt of Rivia  was the best part of the entire series. An already engaging protagonist made even better as Cavill completely throws himself into the role both physically and emotionally. Cavill is Geralt.

Throw in a solid score and cgi to such an intriguing story and even more interesting world and The Witcher is a series you'll think about far past its end credits.
