These Titans are kicking ass and taking names.
DC Universe's Titans are a breath of fresh air. With comic book heroes and stories being everywhere, it's great to see a different touch on the genre.
This is a far darker and more mature look on these characters. And I call them characters because they're not quite heroes yet, especially early on. This series takes a lot of time to really build these characters up to heroes and to eventually form the resurged Titans.
The series follows Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) as he tries to protect a young girl Rachel Roth who is possessed by a dark evil. On their journey they meet a young Beast Boy, and an amnesia stricken Starfire.
So much of the series feels more like a coming of age story rather than a traditional comic book show. The main theme is really about finding your true self.
This is very much character driven. You have Dick running from his past, Starfire trying to figure out who she is, Rachel Roth running away from who she is, and Beast Boy trying to find his place in the world. This ended up being a really warm and heartfelt story about family.
But don't let that fool you, there is a ton of great action throughout the series, and there's enough blood in these scenes to make Deadpool blush. There's some really excellent choreography to go along with the beautiful cinematography.
Overall this series downright surprised me by how good it was. You feel right at home with the rest of the DC Universe, but Titans managed to add its own flair to it. A very mature look on life with some excellent action scenes, and throw in a world destroying being for good measures, and you're in for a good time.
