Unorthodox

An extremely powerful 4 episode series about a woman who left the Hasidic Jewish community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for freedom in Berlin, Germany where her estranged mother now lives. This series provides insightful perspective into the difficulty that presents itself to those who may be in a situation that doesn't feel right for them but they do not know how to leave it.

Based loosely on a book, written by Deborah Feldman, also called Unorthodox this series really brings the viewer into the day to day life of a Hasidic woman and all that she goes through in order to live by this strict culture. Many women have no issues with this life, or so it seems, but for Etsy she never felt right. Set up in an arranged marriage to a nice young man named Yanky. They married and immediately began trying to start a family.

The issue was, Etsy really never wanted to be in this lifestyle. Etsy had a hunger for music and the arts. She had a curiosity for life outside of Brooklyn. This show in only four episodes was not only entertaining but really interesting too.
