Dark, gritty, beautiful, and real. Yellowstone marks a return to the old frontier with it's guns raised. Paramount Network's Yellowstone is a surprising, captivating, and at times hard hitting return back to the old west. This almost forgotten genre rolls in firing on all cylinders, and it almost feels like a love letter to the stories of old.

Redemption, revenge, and grit. This series has everything you'd hope to find from this genre. It follows a family headed by John Dutton who owns the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, but it happens to border a native american reservation, land being sold to the highest bidder, and a national park. These surrounding areas are constantly in conflict with the ranch and the Dutton family.

This series has been captivating. From the first episode on it has held nothing back. I had high expectations as it was created by one of my favorite writers in Taylor Sheridan, who wrote Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. He has shown that he is a master of the neo western genre, and Yellowstone proves it.

You'll be completely sucked into this world, and end up feeling like a part of this family. A family that has a lot going on. This is a series very much about the goods and evils of the world, but it's from the perspective of a family that represents both.

Acting wise the series is phenomenal. Kevin Costner is magnificent every second he's on screen. The legend proves he's got a lot more left in the tank as this is one of his best performances in years. Kelly Reilly is also amazing, but Wes Bentley was the biggest surprise for me. He plays someone who is scarred by the world but is loyal to a faulty, and he absolutely relishes in the role.

Yellowstone is a real, gritty, and sometimes violent look on the world set in front of the beautiful landscape of Montana. In the end the series is a wonderful dive back into the old west and proves it's here to stay.
