A teen drama, murder mystery, and crime thriller all wrapped up in one. Elite is definitely at the top of it's class.
Netflix's Elite was one of the biggest surprises for me. I thought it was going to be your standard cheesy teen romance with the bad love triangles to match, but this Spanish series ended up being a very mature take on teen life that also managed to tackle a lot of issues.
The core of the series follows a group of students in the lead up and aftermath of the murder of fellow student Marina, but what really drives the series is everything else.I thought the characters were fantastic. If you're a fan of three dimensional characters with depth then you're going to love these. It felt as if every character had something to do, and every single one of them played a significant part in the main story. With the exception of one maybe two I didn't think any of the characters were one hundred percent good or one hundred percent bad. I love how it comes down to personal perception.
The amount of attention they put into everything else was magnificent. The subplots were amazing to a point where at times I was more invested in them then the main plot. Something's always happening. A new thread is created as an old continues to unravel, and by the end the series is a perfectly woven story.Elite rises above most of its competitors to truly live up to its name.
