A testosterone filled, full throttle, fully loaded blast of stupid fun.
Hobbs and Shaw was exactly what I wanted it to be and more. It was stupidly entertaining, had balls to the wall action, and it was funny. The film knew what it was and embraced it. There are so many over the top action scenes that are pure fun to watch, but there's also enough of a story to reel you in.
A major theme in the film and the franchise as a whole is family, and I thought they did a really good job with it. Both Hobbs and Shaw have family issues that tie in well. Also in some aspects it's a story of redemption.
It follows Hobbs and Shaw as their paths cross once again when Shaw's sister gets caught up with a cybernetically enhanced man who wants to eliminate half the population.
This film was fun. It opens up with explosions and ends with even bigger ones, and there's a ton of funny banter throughout. Dwayne Johnson proves to be one of the most likeable actors working today. He's really funny in this film and had great chemistry with Jason Statham, who was also really funny. Idris Elba was also good as the villain, and Vanessa Kirby gives another great performance. There's also a couple of fun cameos.
Plain and simple it's a fun film. There's action, there's comedy, and there is fun to be had. In the end Hobbs and Shaw proved to be a hilarious fun summer film.
