When you think of the greatest action movies of all time you think Die Hard, Terminator 2, The Road Warrior, The Matrix, and now Mad Max: Fury Road. This is without a doubt one of the greatest action movies of all time. It manages to follow and live up to two classics, and maybe even surpass them.
The film follows Max Rockatansky as he gets caught in the middle of a daring rescue attempt by Imperator Furiosa. What follows is one of the greatest chases you can see as they race down Fury Road.
From start to finish this film holds nothing back. It's foot to the floor full throttle throughout. The entire movie feels like one action scene, and there's very few moments that slow it down. Be careful if you have heart problems because this movie is like a shot of adrenaline directly to it.
The characters and acting was also great. Tom Hardy was great as Max. Given that Max was already made iconic by Mel Gibson, Hardy took the character and made it his own. Nicolas Hoult was also awesome as Nux, who really surprised me. He was very much a side character, but at times he completely stole the show. It's rare for side characters to get real development, but this one did and it was captivating to watch. But the best of the best had to Charlize Theron's turn as Furiosa. She's as tough as they come but with a heart to match, and she was played beautifully.
With all that being said The best part of this film is the amazing action. Helmed by one of the best to ever do it George Miller shows that action can be art. Each and every scene was perfectly choreographed, and there's no need for any over the top explosions. This is very tight, surprisingly contained, and real action done the right way. Shot with mostly practical effects, you can see the dedication in every shot.
This is a movie that will stand the test of time, and without a doubt one of the greatest action movies to ever hit the silver screen.
