Never meet your heroes. Amazon's The Boys was an excellent surprise. It's an action packed dark comedy that was hilarious. It's a very meta take on the superhero genre. What if superheroes really existed in our world, but were more concerned with being celebrities than actually saving lives?
This series takes place in a world full of superheroes, but the entire industry is monetized. "Heroes" are the celebrities and they have the power. The series follows a band of heroes, The Boys who want to take down the corrupt group known as The Seven.
With so many superhero related movies and shows out now this proves there's still a lot left in the tank. This was a refreshing take on the genre that still managed to include everything you'd want from it.
The action was really good and at times (meaning most of the time) it was gory and graphic. The series kinda felt like a mix of Deadpool, Kick-Ass, Guardians of the Galaxy, and what Suicide Squad was meant to be.
Really none of the members of The Boy's is 100% a hero, and sometimes they're the complete opposite. The real treat in this series is watching the characters grow both individually and as a team. Also Homelander played beautifully by Antony Starr, is a character that you will love to hate.
Overall The Boys comes off as a smart parody in the likes of Scream, but it's also so entertaining to watch. A hilariously dark look on life with some funny yet real revelations about the world makes this series as hilarious as it is entertaining.
